Primary

Cambridge International Primary

The Primary Section at TBIS consists of classes from Year 1 through to Year 6.  There is a class teacher who teaches the majority of the curriculum (Maths, English, Science, Humanities, PHSE) specialist teachers for Art, P.E Computing and, Music in Years 3 to 6, and French.

We follow the British National Curriculum and the Cambridge Primary Stage Curriculum. Classroom assistants are in place to support students; in addition we have teachers to support Reading, Literacy, English as a Second Language and a Learning Support Teachers.

We strive to offer a broad and balanced curriculum that interests each child and that gives each child the opportunity to succeed and achieve.  We believe in educating the whole child and as such, we offer specialist subjects, a range of lunch time clubs and trips.

We pride ourselves in having small class sizes so that each individual can be catered for.   We are a family school and children have the opportunity to regularly mix with each other regardless of age.  Primary children have scheduled breaks for eating during the day and children are encouraged to eat healthily.

The school has a House System consisting of 4 houses – Africa, Asia, Europe and North America.  Points are given out and totals collected each week.

Reading is taught individually, as a class and as part of reading groups.  Children are given a guided reading book to read at home each week, as well as being encouraged to take a library book home.  They visit the library once a week to learn library skills and widen their choice of texts.

We have a Literacy and Numeracy hour daily.  There is a spelling and Maths test weekly in class.  Homework is given across primary and varies in length and amount as children progress through the school.

We want each child to enjoy their time in Primary.
